If you love motor sports, here is what you should look at for a birthday party. Consider first the Go Kart circuits from your local amusement parks and indoor fun centers. In amusement parks, for the different attractions you may have to pay an additional admission fee, but you can complete your main party activity with other park attractions. Indoor centers may be entirely dedicated to Go Karts, usually for teens and adults, and you may organize competitions and make your event more private.

Indoor centers are usually more cozy, but your fun does not depend on wheather hazard and the circuit can get difficult and exciting because of the number of courves.

When you are planning a Go Karts Birthday Party, consider:

  • the cost per player per race
  • the length of the circuit
  • the number of turns or lapses in a race (usually ten)
  • total number of players or available cars that can simultaneously compete in a race (between 7 and 10, or more, for outdoor large circuits)
  • the average time taken by a race (usually something between 5 and 15 minutes)

For the number of players in your group (can be something between 10 and 20) and total duration for your birthday party (one or two hours), you’ll get an estimate about the total number of races (per player) you’ll have to pay for.

You can also organize a competition. To time each player is harder, but first three players from a race of seven cars can qualify for the top race. For a private party of 15 people, with 8 cars available, you may have two initial races and a final race to determine the champions. For the average time per race, you’ll fill one hour with each one having participated to at least one race.

Make it more interesting (and here you may get some support from your party hosts): announce every turn, give a ribbon or even a trophy to the winner. Or who keeps winning wins more!

Of course, there is the general term of Go Karts for the typical small gas-driven car you like driving. But there are different other cars you may find very exciting to drive, such as Indy Racecars, Outlaw Karts (with their unusual looks) or even NASCAR Speed Cars. You’ll get the filling of a Formula 1 driver.

More and more popular are now the virtual race simulators, sophisticated arcade video screens where you feel what the racer actually feels in a real race. Main advantage is you never risk to get hurt, even if you crush badly. There are NASCAR simulators or even Slot Car Racing games, where pairs of players can compete one agains each other in a tournment-like competition.

What about Bumper vehicles? You may have more fun, because you deliberatly bump into each other. Bumper Cars are usually low speed, electrically driven and all have great shock protection. There is no track, but an area where cars can move in either direction they choose.

A variation are the Bumper Boats, based on similar concepts, but on water. Most waterparks (or water areas from regular amusement parks) have Bumper Boats. You may get wet and even fall into the water, but this is rarely deep, so no real danger.

A recent sport that gain popularity lately is WhirlyBall, where two teams with players driving Bumper Car-like vehicles, usually in an indoor hall, play a kind of LaCrosse/Basketball game against each other. Here is a team competition, lots of fun and a certain way to fully dedicate one or two hours to a great birthday party.

Safety

Depending on the type of car and the speed, there are usually restrictions on the minimal age of a driver of his/her high. In many cases, high-speed single kart circuit riders are required to be at least 50″ or 60″ tall or 9 to 14 years old. Helmets and race suits are sometimes mandatory and you may not use sandals. Those under 18 may be required to bring a signed parental consent form. And for some really fast tracks for adults, you may be required to present a valid driver license. Always put your safety belt on.

Otherwise, they may ride, but with an adult (minimum 16 years old) in a double kart or other kind of double seater. Consider also the Kiddie Karts (Kidzkarts), that go from 3 or 4 years of age, with slower speed for safety.

Cost

Because of so many options and different kinds of motor vehicles, prices vary.

Less expensive are surely Kiddie Karts and Bumper Cars or Boats, but you’ll rarely find birthday party packages with party/group rebates just for them. They are usually combined with other attractions (other rides or tokens for Arcade games).

High-speed gas-driver Go Karts, especially those from dedicated indoor or outdoor circuits, are surely more expensive and hardly affordable for large groups. However, if you’re an adult or a teen and have enough money to spend on a very adrenaline-filled party, you may consider something between $5 and $25 per race per racer.

Double seaters can be better, because more people get in cars, but in single seaters the driver is in full control. Double seaters are also great and recommended for children not allowed to drive alone.

For private parties, a full track rental can go up to $500. Private means you’ll compete only against your friends and there will be no strangers to race with you simultaneously.

Look also at the birthday packages they may offer. You’ll usually find important group rebates for many people and up to 10 races in total for everybody (to fully fill about one hour of fun). Fastest racers can get as bonus an additional free race.

Where there is a birthday package there is also usually a party room. And the fun center usually has concessions where you can order pizza and soda (if it is not included in the package).
