Options

Almost every big city has at least one Zoological Garden, frequently combined with aquarium. This could be your main attraction, especially if you haven’t been there in a long time. All important zoos have web sites and offer now birthday packages or another form of significant group discount, so make sure you check their specials on the web.

Another animal attraction are Safari and Animal Farms. They are usually combined with other amusement park attractions and offer feeding and petting farms.

More and more Aquariums offer now Sleepover Parties, which are usually targeted to school groups, because they are obviously more expensive. But you can easily opt for such party for your birthday as well. Imagine sleeping close to a huge aquarium with sharks and wales, listening to their weird sound in the dark and getting fascinated by the lights reflexes.

In many cities you’ll find so-called Mobile Zoos, with entertainers that come to your home with reptiles, birds or other kind of animals and offer you a unic experience. You can pet and feed them, under close supervision of their trainer.

What about some Poney Rides? Some can come to you house, if you have enough place in the backyard. If you love horses, Rodeos and Stables are other points of attraction.

Other kind of attractions comes from Butterfly Gardens, Insectariums and Environment Centers. Some are rather museums and you’ll find them as well in the Museum & Science birthday party theme.

Nature Birthday Parties include Botanical Gardens, camping parties, fishing, ship cruises, out-of-ordinary picnics in a park and any other activity closely related to nature, which may or may not involve animals. You can rent a local boat and go fishing, or just enjoy a day on the sea or on the lake.

Because animals are such a big attraction for anybody, there are amusement parks and restaurants that built their own petting farms or huge aquariums.

Safety

Live animals are always unpredictible, no matter how sweet or domesticated are. Be carefull especially in feeding and petting farms what you can pet and feed. Do not annoy them, do not run after them.

Don’t get too close to wild animal cages, don’t feed them and don’t stress them. Look and respect all signs installed at the zoo.

Stay with the group! Due to excitement and visit of large spaces, the group can easily spread and kids can get lost.

For animals brought to your home, pet and feed only the animals with the entertainer, never the one left in a cage without supervision.

Be carefull with Poney Rides, horses (as many other animals you can pet or feed) are sweet but can bite, by mistake. Never ride poneys or horses without supervision and proper equipment.

Be aware that some live insects can be dangerous, like tarantulas or other kind of spiders.

In ship cruises, fishing or picnics on the lake, take care at the water. Best swimmers can still have problems.

Cost

Animal Birthday Parties can obviously get expensive, but consider how much you spend on a single admission ticket yourself to go and see these kind of attractions. Depending on the number of people in the group, always consider a Zoo or Aquarium birthday party if they offer birthday packages with significant discounts.

In Safari and feeding farms, you’ll also spend on food for animals. This can get also pretty expensive and only their specific food is allowed in the area.

Many zoos offer now a separate picnic area for your party, if not a separate party room.

Checklist

Try to limit the time of the birthday party to the time kids spend in the party area or party room. Then leave each child with his parent for a visit of the area, for the rest of the day.It would require more effort and responsibility to watch all kids during a visit of large spaces.

Ask what kind of animals your kids can pet and feed. This is by far the most exciting attraction for them in this kind of party. Once in the zoo/farm/aquarium, watch them closely once they pet and feed animals and also make sure they don’t stress them too much. Stressed animals can easily become aggresive.

If you never did this until now, start to consider as alternative to your local off-site zoo a local animal entertainer, who will eventually come to your home, in most cases with reptiles, birds or poneys. They may be more expensive, but for a private party and the fact they take care of all entertainment, it’s definity worth the price!

Always check before making a reservation if and what kind of foods and drinks are included in the birthday package. If this is to be provided by yourself, check the concessions in the area - they may be in limited number and pretty expensive, and other kind of food or drink’ from outside you’re not allow to bring.

Zoos, Safaris, Farms and Aquariums are usually outside the city, so make sure every guest has a proper way of transportation, when they arrive and they leave the party. Check if there is enough parking space, if it’s a paying parking or not, how much it costs. If expensive and hard to find, organize drop-in/drop-off with the parents at specific hour.
